It started out as a whisper. A pipe dream. The kind of thing you talk about at 2 a.m. over cheap ​beer and the ​s​trum of a riverside guitar - the good stuff. That’s what Unsung® was. Just an idea. A name and a notion shoved into a lonely corner of ​my MacBook, collecting digital dust with all the other things ​I sw​ore ​I​'d get to when the time ​w​as right.

Time, of course, is a lousy landlord. She doesn’t wait for your courage to show up. So the dream sat there. Cold. Quiet. Just another file in the archives of good intentions.

Then came 2024.

​

My husband and I rolled into Gruene, where the past and future of Texas music seem to share a barstool. We shook hands with 'ole wild one Scott Foley​ - a guy who dreams loud and doesn't ask permission​ - and Unsung® started to breathe again.

​

Now, everybody knows Gruene Hall. It’s the kind of place where legends were born and Sunday hangovers were made. But if you stop there, you’re missing the whole damn picture. Because music in the 78130 do​esn’t live in one ​p​lace​ - it spills out into the streets, the back patios, the dive bars, and ​the ​w​eathered stages.

Unsung® ​i​sn't about the headliners. It’s about those still hauling their own gear​; singing to a half-full room. It’s about the stories​ - the grit, the grace​ and the grind it takes to be good when nobody's clapping yet.

We’re here for the local lifers, the newcomers with something to say​ and the ones who still tune their own guitars by ear. But it ​isn’t just about the artists. No sir. It’s the whole damn cast: the venues that take a shot on a nobody​, the studios burning the midnight oil to help some kid cut their dream album, the sound guys pulling off miracles with duct tape and a prayer, the photographers who chase​ the soul of a song and the fans​ who show up on a Tuesday, in the rain, just ’cause the music’s honest and the beer’s cold.

Unsung® is for them, too.
